GTCB is a capacity building program in Geospatial Information Science and Technologies (GIS&T) representing a new generation of professional training that provides individuals with opportunities to optimize their potential in GIS&T. Our training is accountable for generating competency outcomes that empower the geospatial workforce to contribute to the building of economy and society.
The diversity of geospatial-related tasks performed by professionals across various domains precludes the existence of a single “one size fits all” standardized training program, such as the kind of training offered by technology providers. GTCB recognizes this diversity. Its GIS&T competency-based training is designed to foster a generation of professional end users who can think spatially effectively and are capable of adopting a critical approach to technological, practical, and theoretical issues surrounding the use of technology in their day-to-day job. Competency development in GIS&T refers to the continual growth and improvement of an individual’s competency through the enhancement of his/her geospatial technical skills (i.e., the traditional focus of training) and the improvement of his/her geospatial knowledgebase underlying these skills (i.e., the typical focus of education).
